A look at Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility Suite

It’s coming up to two years since Microsoft’s new mobile device management (MDM) software was announced by Satya Nadella. As it’s coming up to its two year anniversary this year, it’s safe to say that it’s been steadily growing in users.

This is no doubt in part to the rising popularity of Office 365 in the work place, meaning that software and credentials are getting used on more than just the standard desktop PC. For organisations that support using multiple devices, MDM solutions are by far the best way to manage them. Well, it is called mobile device management software after all.

There are three products at the core of EMS: Microsoft Intune, Azure Active Directory (AD) Premium, and Azure Rights Management Solution (RMS).

Microsoft Intune provides the ability to give employees access to applications, data, and resources from pretty much anywhere in the world that has an internet connection. At the same time, Intune keeps corporate information safe and secure, so peace of mind is ensured.

Chances are you’ve already been using Azure AD, even if you haven’t realised it. Office 365, Microsoft Azure, and CRM Online all use elements of Azure AD. However, it’s bigger brother, Azure AD Premium, has quite a few extra bells and whistles, like multi-factor authentication and self-service password reset.

Azure RMS provides a host of useful features that are based on protecting information throughout the organisation. A couple of examples are the ability to send emails out as ‘Do Not Forward’ and Office 365 message encryption. Azure RMS is easy to go unnoticed, as a lot of the features can be taken for granted because they’re just so useful that you’ll start forgetting that they were ever an extra service to begin with.

The key selling point for EMS comes with its compatibility with Office 365. As well as rolling Office 365 out across your workforce, EMS can also protect Microsoft Office emails, files, and applications – and as it’s designed by Microsoft, you can be sure that it’s going to work seamlessly with your Microsoft data.

EMS is available through CSP and OPEN, and the best way to find out more is by contacting our Cloud Team. Give them a call on 0333 003 1701, or email Cloud@westcoast.co.uk.
